Is water diet to lose weight healthy?

There are two types of diets: healthy and unhealthy. An excellent diet can help you embrace a healthier lifestyle, keeping you active and eating good for you foods, not cutting you off from essential nutrients. Anything else might assure rapid weight loss results, but spoiler alert: you will only wind up gaining the weight back. A water diet to lose weight is no distinct.

What is a water diet to lose weight?

Strict water diet to lose weight

Extreme water diet to lose weight

It’s one of the latest dieting trends, with many variations that all have one thing in common: they’re extreme. Some of them will tell you to drink water for a few days. But let you add in fruits and vegetables once you’ve begun your water diet to lose more weight. You do not eat and just drink water. Other water diets let you have apples with your water.

Another name for fasting

“It is only another name for fasting,” says registered dietitian and co founder of Appetite for Health. Julie Upton, R.D. C.S.S.D.
If you are a healthy man, a couple of days of fasting likely will not damage you, according to Upton, but water dieting to lose weight is a terrible method. “You will be so hungry and only revert back to your regular eating patterns after attempting this and you will gain any weight that you lost,” she says.

What are the dangers of a water diet?

When your primary (or only) consumption is water, your body loses vital nutrients it needs. The short term effect is you will lose lots of weight, most of which will be water not fat, says Upton. “You lose more muscle in comparison with individuals losing weight from a recommended calorie decrease of 500-800 calories daily from their regular consumption. What this means is that [after off the water diet] you will need to eat much less [to keep weight loss] because your metabolic rate will have dropped significantly.”

What about a chilly water diet?

It’s not actually a diet – there are no restrictions on what you eat, the only stipulation is that water must be cold when you drink it. The body burns extra calories heating up ice cold water to the regular body temperature of 98.6 degrees. (The colder the water the more calories burned off). Drinking lots of water also makes you you feeling fuller longer, making you less inclined to overeat. And water flushes out any toxins that develop in the body.

What should you do?

We should all be drinking lots of water daily, but not in lieu of eating! The Mayo Clinic indicates drinking nine drinks a day. If you need to make them cold to attempt to lose a few extra calories, go right ahead. But if you need to slim down and keep it away, a water diet to lose weight isn’t the way to go. “Bypass this fad and lose weight and tone up the manner that works: Cut out idle calories (added sugars, saturated fats) and work out,” says Upton. “You will feel a lot better and it is more likely to continue.”
